Naturopathic Medicine is a primary health care system that incorporates the art and science of medicine. Naturopathic Medicine has been a regulated profession in BC since 1936 and under theHealth Professions Act (BC) since 2000. It’s history is rooted in ancient Grecian, Chinese, European, Native American, and Ayurvedic medical philosophies, which are all based on the human potential to heal thyself given the appropriate conditions and tools. The main focus of the naturopathic philosophy is to focus on treating the underlying cause of symptoms and helping the body to create an overall balance that is conducive to healing.
In Canada, Naturopathic Doctors spend a vigorous 4 years in a Doctorate program. Every visit with a Naturopathic physician is patient-centered, with a focus on prevention and treating the underlying cause of disease. A ND’s toolkit is very well rounded and may include: herbal medicine, diet & lifestyle counselling, IV nutrient therapy, physical medicine, spinal manipulation, acupuncture, injection therapies and the option to prescribe most pharmaceutical medications, depending on the case at hand. It incorporates modern day science and research of medicine, with a focus on returning to nature and what the body needs most.
